Filling the Void of Missing Teeth
Implants
Implants are by far the best method for replacing missing teeth. In this procedure, a titanium post is surgically installed in the jaw bone, taking the place of the roots of your lost tooth. Next, a crown that looks and feels like a natural tooth is fitted to the top of the titanium post. The crown is made in a dental laboratory by a trained technician and is custom designed to fit the natural shape and color of your tooth.
The titanium post typically lasts a lifetime. The crown portion will usually last over a
period of 10-20 years (or even longer), making an implant the best long-term value.
More and more insurances providers are covering some of the cost of implants.
If Dr. Thompson determines the complexity of the case warrants the care of a specialist,
he will recommend the procedure be performed by an endodontist.
Bridges
In many cases, a bridge can still provide the best esthetic result. Bridges are the treatment
of choice when there is not enough bone present for an implant. Bridges consist of one or
more false teeth that are held in place by fixtures that attach to the surrounding teeth.
Bridges can either be fixed and removable. Fixed bridges are cemented in place and cannot
be taken out. Removable bridges are not permanently attached and can be removed at night
or for cleaning purposes.
Insurance companies almost always cover this method of tooth replacement.
Removable Dentures
Removable dentures are often the most economical treatment for multiple missing teeth.
This option can be used to replace a few teeth up to the entire row.
